What is parasailing anyway?

Parasailing involves taking passengers into the air by the inflation of a parasail wing (parachute) when a boat is in motion. A hydraulic winch system smoothly lets rope out so that the parasail wing can rise 400 feet (the legal limit) above the beautiful Gulf waters, creating an unforgettable adventure along the Emerald Coast.

May I bring my camera and phone?

Yes, you may bring whatever electronics you would like, but there is a risk of damage from moisture. You may do so at your own risk. Although we try to prevent electronics from becoming wet, Buddy’s Watersports is not responsible for damage to your electronic devices. We do have photo packages available so you can leave your electronics safely behind.

Are there sharks?

Yes, from time to time, sharks pass through the waters off Destin and Fort Walton Beach; however, they have never been interested in parasailers. No shark attacks have occurred while parasailing. Remember, takeoff and landing are done on the boat, so there is no contact with the water except for an optional dip at the end of your flight.

Do I need reservations for parasailing?

Yes. Reservations are recommended, especially during the busy summer season. We recommend booking at least 2 days in advance during peak season to ensure availability for your parasailing adventure in Destin or Fort Walton Beach.

Where do we parasail?

Depending on weather conditions, parasailing is done either in the crystal-clear waters of the Gulf of Mexico or in the calmer waters of Choctawhatchee Bay. Our trips offer some of the best views of Destin, Fort Walton Beach, Okaloosa Island, and the surrounding coastline.

How long is the parasail ride?

At Buddy’s Watersports, we provide a full 10–12 minute parasail flight. You may fly solo (for an additional fee), tandem, or triple, depending on weather conditions and combined passenger weight. The captain takes all factors into consideration to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience.

How long is the boat ride?

You may enjoy the sights and sounds of the Gulf of Mexico or Choctawhatchee Bay for up to an hour, depending on the number of passengers flying that trip.

What are the rules for children riding?

Buddy’s Watersports welcomes children ages 5 and up. Accompanying adults may fly with one or two children, or, if space permits, may ride along as spectators. Our experienced crew is trained to help young flyers feel safe and comfortable throughout the experience. Our captain has extensive parasailing experience along the Emerald Coast, so you can feel confident knowing your family is in good hands.

Can I just ride on the boat?

Yes. If space is available, spectator trips may be available so you can enjoy the ride without flying.

Will I get wet?

Our parasailing rides typically include an optional foot dip at the end of the flight, but you may request to stay completely dry. As with any boat ride, you may still experience a little splash from the beautiful emerald-green waters of the Gulf.

What if I cannot swim?

No swimming experience is required. All parasailers wear U.S. Coast Guard-approved life jackets. In the unlikely event of a water landing, the life jacket will keep you afloat until the crew assists you.

What if I am pregnant?

Due to insurance requirements, we are unable to fly pregnant passengers. We look forward to welcoming you after your little one arrives!

Who will be flying with me?

You may fly by yourself, with another person, or with two other people depending on weather conditions and combined weight limits. We make every effort to accommodate your group and do not pair you with strangers.

Do you have photo and video equipment available if I don’t want to get mine wet?

Yes. Buddy’s Watersports offers photo and video packages for your group. We can capture your flight so you can relax and enjoy the experience without worrying about your phone or camera.

Is parasailing safe?

Statistically speaking, parasailing is considered a very safe recreational activity when conducted by trained professionals using properly maintained equipment.

Our captain is U.S. Coast Guard licensed and has extensive experience operating vessels in the waters of Destin and Fort Walton Beach. Safety is our top priority, and we take pride in maintaining our vessels and equipment to the highest standards.

Additionally, our parasail vessel is U.S. Coast Guard inspected and specifically designed for parasailing operations. We adhere to all applicable U.S. Coast Guard, FAA, and insurance regulations and recommendations to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for every guest.

How do you get in the air?

Takeoff and landing are performed directly from the back deck of the parasail boat with the assistance of a specially trained deckhand and a hydraulic winch system. Buddy’s Watersports uses U.S. Coast Guard-approved harnesses and equipment, all of which are inspected regularly to ensure the highest safety standards.
